Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Department of shipping 14-143, Motijheel C/A (8th Floor) Dhaka-1000   No-CNS/008/Institute/BMTI/Part-2/04/1890(38)                                     Date 26/02/2005   Subject: EQUIVALENT RANKS OF RATINGS OF BANGLADESHI SEAFARER FOR FOREIGN FLAG SHIPS              This is to inform all concerned that equivalent ranks of Bangladeshi seafarers to work on Foreign Flag vessels are as follows:              Carpenter, Deck Serang, Plambers, Deck Fitter, Lascar, Secunny, Seaman etc. may be considered as equivalent to “Ordinary Seaman (OS)” rank.              Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, Greaser, Fireman etc. may be considered as equivalent to “Wiper” or “Oiler”.                To be qualified to serve as AB or Oiler onboard a foreign flag vessel one must fulfill the requirement of that flag state regulation.   (Capt.
